Who We Are

Who *makes* us? It's easy to think about the experiences and events that have shaped our lives, but what about the people?

For most, it's probably family that comes to mind first. My parents and my sister. My beautiful wife and my in-laws. My grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Those are the obvious ones. They are the people who have been around us our entire lives (if we're lucky enough) and have played a big role in shaping each of us as humans.

Then, there is the supporting cast. Friends. True friends. Those who have been a part of our lives for almost as long as family. The ones that make it feel like we saw each other yesterday even after a year apart.

The extras? Those who have been in the background and have only played the tiniest role in our lives. They are the ones that we forget about quickly. Their shadows fade quickly from memory but their contribution to *us* carries on.

To truly consider the number of people who have had a part in shaping who each of us are is overwhelming. Today[^1], I pause to think about each and every one of you.

Thank you.
